The Lollipop Baby Monitor

Mrs. Nipple's Review of the Lollipop baby monitor

I was so excited to try out the Lollipop monitor. I've had my eye on it for months. I am always drawn to innovative products and at first sight you know this camera is going to be different.

I registered for the Nest when was pregnant with Charlie. Though I still think it's a great product I was not willing to pay the steep subscription fee allowing you to see the recorded footage of your child. I loved using the nest as a nanny cam and would always check on Charlie and our nanny when I went back to work. For that purpose, the Nest is wonderful. Now that I have the Lollipop camera as a baby cam I would choose the lollipop over the Nest every single time and I’ll tell you why.

When we had Ford I started thinking of which camera would work the best with our lifestyle and needs. Somethings that were important to me were getting a good view of him on any of his many contraptions. Now that we live in a home, a much bigger space, being able to see him in different areas of our home was important to me. Being able to place the camera pretty much anywhere is a really great feature.

Another great feature is how clear the picture is. I can get such a clear view of Ford that I can actually see him breathing and making little movements which is very important to me.

I also wanted a camera that could offer us smart data. I didn't want to scroll through a whole nights worth of footage to see if Ford woke up. I wanted to be able to glance at a summary of how the night went. I love how the lollipop monitor has crying detection and then captures the clip of the footage when he was up and saves it for you.

SOME OTHER THINGS I LOVE

Option to keep the Wifi connection private- This is a big topic. It's scary knowing others can get access to your baby’s live video. This is an important feature as It significantly reduces the risk of hacking. Outgoing video streaming will be blocked in that configuration.

MOBILE APP FEATURES:

Easy to use

Intuitive navigation when using multiple cameras

Audio and video quality is excellent

CAMERA FEATURES:

Infared night vision - Such a clear picture even at night

VOX - The Voice Activated Alert (VOX) feature allows you to conserve power on the video monitor. For example, you may want your video monitor to shut off when your babyis sleeping, and turn on when your baby cries. Adjusting the VOX sensitivity levels determines how sensitive the camera is to your baby's cry.

Multiple cameras- especially important with multiple kids

Two-way talk

Noisemaker & lullibies- LOVE this feature. Especially for traveling. There are so many different options from blow dryers to Mozart. If Ford wakes up from a nap early I put one of the options on and he drifts back to sleep.

video recording & snapshot

zoom

You can view camera from outside of the home

You can send access to other people

128 degree view

720p HD-  I don't even know what this means but it is SO clear

Audio only mode - If you don't want to keep your phone on the whole night you can do the audio only version. Your phone screen will be turned off, but you’ll still receive the audio feed from your baby’s bedroom and you can easily turn on the video stream if needed. It basically acts as a baby crying detector in that mode.

Very well priced- $134

The only two things I will point out.

1- I had to lower the sensitivity level of the background noise because I was getting way too many alerts. Once I did this it fixed the problem

2-I'm kind of over using my phone as a monitor when I'm home but I love the flexibility it offers when we are out and when we are traveling. I also can’t see myself walking around the house with a baby monitor. I've come up with the perfect system for our lifestyle.

I use the lollipop monitor paired with an "old school" V-tech audio only baby monitor. The audio only monitor was very cheap and came with two bases. I leave one in the kitchen and one next to my bed. When I go to bed I put on the V-tech audio monitor and use that throughout the night. If Ford wakes up, I can hear him through the V-tech monitor and can look right on the lollipop monitor app to see what’s going on. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is check my lollipop monitor app. My favorite feature is that it shows me how many times Ford woke up and I can review the clips. Before I had this monitor I could never remember how many times I got up in the middle of the night to feed Ford because of the exhaustion I was experiencing. I wish I had this monitor because I know I was overfeeding him. This is by far my favorite feature. I am even considering purchasing another one for Charlie’s room.

You can purchase the Lollipop baby monitor, HERE.

Willow Pump Review....Too good to be true?

Mrs. Nipple's honest review of the Willow Pump

Too good to be true?

I'm writing this blog post while pumping in a coffee shop. Yup, you heard me correctly. I'm writing this blog post while pumping in a coffee shop. From the moment I announced I was trying out the Willow Pump, the DMs came streaming in. So many mamas out there were just as intrigued with this new pump, which seems to be first in class in the hands free "discrete" category. I received so many questions about the Willow Pump. Is it really actually quiet? Will I be able to attend a business meeting while wearing it? Can I get things done around the house while pumping? The number one question being, is it worth the money? It's like that unicorn...you've heard of it but you've never actually seen it...so does it actually exist?

First I'll start with the set up...

This pump is simple to put together. It's just a few pieces, a quick charge, downloading the Willow app and you are ready! I also recommend watching the educational videos so you know exactly what you are doing. Then like anything else it takes a little practice.

Learning curve

Willow advises that you pump at least 7 times within the first 7 days. That's because with Willow, it does take a little time to master it. It is not your average pump. Willow offers the option of a coaching call to help you during those first few days. I highly recommend jumping on this call. I think those that like the Willow don't mind putting in the extra effort upfront to then get the benefits of using the Willow vs. your traditional pump. A few things to focus on during this time is mastering placement of the pump on your breast, emptying the remainder of the milk from the pump into the bag, and changing bags mid-pump. I picked these because these were the three areas that took a little time mastering for me personally. You really have to get your nipple lined up correctly. With this pump, you can not see where your nipple sits while pumping like you can with the traditional pumps. The bags are also different than your traditional bags. You have to get a good seal (with proper alignment!) to prevent air from filling the bags and you also need to turn the pump a particular way to prevent leakage of your liquid gold after you pump. The customer service was great and having a coach to walk you through these areas was super helpful. It still takes practice to get these new skills down, but the benefits of the pump can be worth it to some.

Parts and way less of them

One of the things I hate most about another pump I’ve used and most traditional pumps is the amount of parts: the bottle, the flange, the plastic piece that goes on the outside of the back of the flange and the rubber piece that goes on the inside.....times two. Pumping on the go is not easy for a number of reasons and one reason is this...so many parts! Willow clearly has the traditional pumps beat here. There are 3 pieces plus the bag, but when you're done pumping you just take the bag right out, it's presealed. There is no question that it is easier to travel with the Willow vs a traditional pump. You only have to wash 2 parts and they are dishwasher safe.

Time

I did find I was pumping for longer periods of time with the Willow pump vs. the traditional pump. I think this was due to the fact that the Willow bags only hold 4 oz of milk each. For some this is fine but I like to pump as much as my body will allow when I'm pumping which is over 4 oz. The Willow app alerts you that you reached 4 oz of milk and you have to take the bag out and insert a new bag. I get into a grove while pumping so this kind of messed with that grove a bit. I eventually ended up deciding to stop at 4 oz unless my breasts were engorged.

Is it really silent?

The Willow Pump is definitely quiet but it does make sounds. It makes the most noise in the beginning while it is in the stimulation phase, before switching to expression, but even during that time it is so much quieter than your average pump. Would you be able to hear it in the quiet section of the library? YES!  But not in a coffee shop.

How discrete is it?

Can you pump while holding your baby, cleaning the house, folding laundry, sitting in the corner of a coffee shop or driving? YES!! Are you going to pump with the Willow while you are walking around town? I doubt it. I wear a 34 B and it look like I have DDD or even bigger....I can't remember what comes after DDD like maybe X or something like that?! Well, then my boobs are XX while wearing the Willow. There's no way you will catch me walking around town looking like this, but it sure does help while driving or cooking dinner. I actually wore them while eating dinner with my parents and it was so nice not having to spend an extra 30 minutes I didn't have to pump with the door closed. It also feels nicer. I often feel like I'm pumping myself as if I am a cow when I use a traditional pump. These slip right into my bra and that's it!

Cost

There's no question that the Willow is expensive. On top of the price of the pump, the bags will also cost you a pretty penny. That being said I know many mamas will spend the money on a pump that could really fit into their lifestyle. Willow now offers financing, with payments starting at $43/month. You can also use your FSA/HSA funds as well.

Would I recommend the Willow?

I think it really comes down to what your needs are and how motivated you are to learn to really use the Willow correctly. If you occasionally pump and you can usually find time to sit down in a discreet place while  pumping, then this may not be for you. If you are always on the go, have multiple children, can't find a second during the day or constantly traveling and can't always find a discreet area to pump, then the Willow is a wonderful option. It's not perfect. I'm going to say it again, it's not perfect which you will usually find with something so innovative, but because I spend 60 percent of my time in my car because of my job, it's an easy choice that the Willow works with my lifestyle. That being said, if I'm home on a Thursday night and the kids are asleep, I will reach for my traditional pump because it pumps the milk in less time and can hold greater than 4 oz of milk.

#MAMALOGUES  & A FEW OF MY FAVORITE REGISTRY ITEMS

IMG_7332.jpg
image1 (3) copy.jpg

I have a feeling if you are reading this then you are either a new or expecting mama so CONGRATULATIONS! I'm going to be sharing a few of my favorite registry items along with some mamlogues of how these products help me bond with my boys.

Two issues that stand in the way of bonding with my babies is when they are over stimulated or colicky so these products help with those two issues. If I were to recreate my registry these would be top on the list.

IMG_7329.jpg

First, the Phillips Avent anti-colic bottle. Not all babies will be colicky. My first wasn't but my second had all the signs of colic and was very fussy. He ended up actually being diagnosed with a lip & tongue tie at 2.5 months. When Ford (my second) would feed he would get air in his little tummy which is very painful. This bottle helps limit the amount of air that gets into a babies stomach during feedings and therefore helps with colic. It's not a bad idea to have a few of these bottles on hand just incase you too end up having a colicky baby. In my experience my favorite memories of bonding with my boys are when they are happy! This will help get you that happy baby if he/she is sensitive to extra air in their tummies. You can find these bottles, HERE.

Second, a sleep cover! This was a lifesaver. I'm not a mama that likes being inside all day prisoner to my boys nap schedule. That being said my boys do have strict nap schedules because they are happiest when they get their sleep. This cover has a universal fit. It actually fits on every stroller (umbrella & full size) even on bassinets! It creates the perfect sleep environment. It blocks out 97% of light, it's completely breathable and has UV protection. Whether I have errands to run or we are at the beach this beach cover is my go-to. Since young babies can not wear sunscreen I like using this all summer long. You can find it, HERE.  This sleep cover paired with this travel noise maker make the perfect pair. You can find the travel size noise maker, HERE. These two products help create balance in our relationship. Finding ways to to create a peaceful sleep environment for your kids on the go is very helpful.

Last but not least, my favorite on the go play mat. This play mat is perfect to use until your babies start walking. It folds up into a bag for easy transport! This is one of my favorite travel items. You unfold it and all of your toys are right on the mat! You can find it, HERE. Some babies get bored when you are at lunch or events...even at the airport. This is so fun for babies. When we travel I put new toys in the bag so it's a surprise when I open the bag and the new toys are sitting there....it also helps keep the boys occupied.

You can watch the video below to see all the items! I run through each one. Head over to instagram to comment on what products helped you bond with your babies and share your #mamalogues

 DockATot®

DockATot® is a multi-functional lounging, playing, chilling, resting and snuggling dock you can take anywhere. If I had to pick ONE yes ONE must have baby item for the first 0-8 months,  it would be the Dockatot.  No question. At first glance, it’s just a docking station for your baby, it docks your tot. It’s so much more. Your baby has been living and growing in such a cozy tight space for the last 10 months, and they are thrust into our world, gravity and all. The 4th trimester can be tough on everyone, but the Dockatot makes this time period that much easier. The Dockatot creates a womb like space for your baby to lounge, sleep, get his/her diaper changed and even do tummy time! It’s one of the most versatile products on the market. Let’s talk about SLEEP. The Dockatot is breathable, it doesn’t harbor heat, it reinvents the womb, and it’s portable. Maternity leave can be tough and we would frequently escape to my parents’ home for some TLC. I never had to worry about Charlie sleeping in new environments because the Dockatot went wherever we would go. We also didn’t have to haul the pack n play for overnighters because the Dockatot is approved for co-sleeping.  I’m not sure if this is proven,  but I also praise the Dockatot for Charlie’s perfectly round dome! Did I mention the very fun prints & accessories? Dockatot offers accessories for their loungers. The toy arches and Toy sets clip right onto the Dockatot and will keep your babies occupied.

REGISTRY GUIDE & SLEEP GEAR

BABY REGISTRY & EVERYTHING SLEEP

Halo Bassinest Swivel Sleeper: This makes middle of the night feedings a little bit easier and I would imagine is a must have for women who are having C-sections. The Halo pulls up partially over your mattress and the side even drops down for easy baby lifting. If you plan on following the American Academy of Pediatrics new sleep guidelines recommending that babies sleep in their parents’ rooms for at least six months but ideally…wait for it….a FULL year then, this would be a smart investment. Charlie slept in our room for six months, though we did have a one bedroom apartment, so our choices were limited. I really loved having him close for those early months,  but if you are only planning on keeping your baby that close for the first few weeks, then this product is not for you. The Bassinest seems very large for such a small little person, so I would highly recommend an insert. Halo came out with the Halo Bassinest Newborn insert after Charlie was born which is another good option,  but only can be used until the baby is 15 pounds.

Dockatot:

SWADDLES: This is a tough one to plan ahead for. Babies have preferences, and those preferences include swaddles. Yes, at first it might seem like they hate them all, but after they get comfortable with them, they are a God sent. I could go on and on about the importance of a swaddle and a white noise maker, but let’s not waste time.  You need them so buy them.  I would buy a few different kinds and try them out. Charlie used your basic muslin blanket swaddle for the first few weeks but soon started breaking out of them. We transitioned to the Summer Infant velcro swaddle & the Ollie swaddle both worked wonders. When Charlie started rolling over, we transitioned to (what I like to call) the flying squirrel swaddle and now he is in the Halo swaddle with his arms out.

Nest Camera: This is a very reliable camera and is especially convenient for parents that work outside of the home. We purchased a bundle of three cameras, so I’m able to see Charlie sleeping, playing and enjoying meals, all on the same nest app on my iphone. I love being able to see and hear Charlie at any time during the day to make sure all is well at home. If you start out with one camera and have another child in the future it’s easy to add cameras. These cameras are very portable and take 2 minutes to set up while traveling as long as there is wifi. *If you want to look back at what was previously recorded, you have to purchase the monthly plan. (We did not do this)

Owlet: If you are the type of parents that are going to be up every 5 minutes watching to see if your baby’s chest is moving, then this product is for you. If you are not that type of person, then you might not want to spend the extra money.  GUILTY!  I was that person. I didn’t sleep the first few nights that I was home and when I mean didn’t sleep,  I didn’t even shut my eyes and pretend I was sleeping. We purchased the Owlet on day 5.  I got a rush delivery.  I took a breath and I was able to relax. The sock fits right onto the baby’s foot and uses the same safe hospital pulse oximetry technology. It measures both heart rate and oxygen levels. Though it can be used up to 18 months, I only used it for 6 months. The Owlet Smart Sock gave me the security I needed to get through the first few months and I stopped using it when I felt confident enough without it. We NEVER had a false alarm.

NURSERY GEAR

Babyletto Crib: I love the Babyletto crib from Land of Nod.  Buying a crib is such a personal choice. One thing to decide before you start looking is if you want a convertible crib. These types of cribs convert into toddler beds and will grow with your child.

Newton Breathable Crib Mattress: I would recommend spending the extra $  for a breathable mattress. Why take any chances?  The Newton Breathable Crib mattress has an innovative design which allows air to flow freely for optimal breathability and temperature regulation.  100 Percent breathable, washable, recyclable and free of toxins!!!  If your child throws up or has a blow out on the mattress, you simply throw the cover in the wash and wash the actual mattress right in the tub. The material is very cool!

Crib fitted sheet:  You do not need sheets if you buy the Newton Mattress. If you do decide to throw a fitted sheet over the mattress, make sure it’s made out of a breathable material.  A muslin sheet is a wonderful option since muslin is a finely woven breathable fabric.  I love the Aden and Anais muslin sheets because they are not only breathable but come in a variety of very fun prints.

Halo SleepSack:  This is a really great swaddle to use as your baby grows. Our son has been using it for the last 4 months. The wrap offers the feeling of security while the option for arms in or out as your baby grows really makes this swaddle last.

Dockatot Grand:  The Grand can be used from 9-36 months. This is a great product to use for the crib to bed transition. The Dockatot Grand will be a lifesaver when we transition our son from the crib to his toddler bed. For $10 off, click HERE

Natursutten:  Our son did not use a pacifier until he was 3 months old. We decided to wait, so he would satisfy his sucking urges by breastfeeding. He was an underweight infant so any extra calories were welcomed. It is such a personal decision. From around 8 months on, he now only uses it at night and on rare occasions, during the day.  If and when you use a pacifier, I absolutely LOVE Natursutten. They are 100 percent natural, made from pure natural rubber from a Hevea  Brasiliensis tree. They are softer than silicone and are molded into one piece. This is so important because there are no joints or cracks where dirt and bacteria could accumulate. Your little one is going to be sucking on this thing all day and potentially all night long, so I would recommend choosing the brand you use very carefully.

Marpac Dohm Sound Machine:  We have not one but two sound machines in our little ones room.  We use this machine and The HoMedics Sound Spa sound machine. I would not have it any other way and highly recommend using a sound machine for your baby.

REGISTERING FOR A BABY

Figuring out where to register for your baby can be just as much as a headache as figuring out what items you would like to add to your registry. I really wish I knew about Babylist when I registered for Charlie.

I was very limited to what items I could add to my registry. I could only add the big brand names and all of my favorite items were small brands. Many of these small brand companies are run by actual moms who understand the importance of making life with a new baby easier. They also understand the importance of baby products that don't necessarily look like baby products.  Being able to add these types of items would have made the gifts at my baby shower more personal and unique.

BABYLIST

Babylist makes the journey into parenthood easier and less overwhelming. The Babylist Universal Registry lets you register for everything you need from any store, Yes... ANY STORE. You can even add things to your registry that money can’t buy like home-cooked meals and babysitting help. I could see this being especially helpful if you live far from your extended family. If I had meals set up for the first month after delivery, it would have been a huge weight off of my shoulders. You can even register for cash funds, for something bigger like daycare or nanny expenses. Babylist works like Pinterest. You just use the Add to Babylist browser button to easily add items while you shop. There is also an app for managing your registry on-the-go.

NEWTON BABY CRIB MATTRESS

Product Pick of the Week, Newton Mattress

IMG_8182.JPG

Do you remember the video I posted on Friday night of Charlie "dancing?" He thinking he is dancing but he is actually just spinning. Our Friday night dance party wrapped up at 6 pm. Fast forward to 7 pm, when we heard screams coming from his nursery only to find Charlie projectile vomiting all over his crib!! We are taking a break from music at the Nipple household for a while.

Dealing with a poor baby vomiting is not only sad, but it's so much work juggling the mess and the babe. That's why I'm highlighting The Newton Baby Crib Mattress as my product spotlight of the week. When your child gets sick all you have to do is simply unzip the mattress cover and throw it in the wash. The actual mattress, the Wovenaire® core is made of 90% free air - yes, air and 10% safe food-grade polymer. You can throw the mattress right in the shower or bath and just wipe it down.

One of the main reasons I bought the mattress for Charlie is that it is breathable. The Newton Baby Crib mattress has an innovative design which allows air to flow freely for optimal breathability and temperature regulation.  100 Percent breathable, washable, recyclable and free of toxins!!!   The material is very cool! It's also Greenguard Gold certified, which means no off-gassing, toxic chemicals or allergens. The mattress has two stages so will last through the toddler years.

You do not need sheets if you buy the Newton Mattress. If you do decide to throw a fitted sheet over the mattress, make sure the sheet is made out of a breathable material.  A muslin sheet is a wonderful option since muslin is a finely woven breathable fabric.  I love the Aden and Anais muslin sheets because they are not only breathable but come in a variety of very fun prints.

FEEDING tools & MY LOVE FOR BABY BREZZA

BABY GEAR, VOL 5

BabyBrezza Glass One Step Baby Food Maker

As you knowI’m a huge fan of the BabyBrezza products, so their food maker comes highly recommended.  We introduced solids at 6 months and I used the BabyBrezza from day one.  It is so incredibly easy. You simply put the raw food in the glass bowl, steam, and blend. Whether it’s vegetables, fruit or meat, the BabyBrezza steams and blends the food in one application. The BabyBrezza also comes with recipes organized by age, so you know what foods are age appropriate for your little one. Clean up is also very simple just throw almost every piece in the dishwasher and that’s it! This is one of those products I still use every single day. Now that my son is one, I do not need to blend the foods, but I still use the steamer.

Fresh Squeezed Squeeze Station

This product is a perfect pair with the Baby Brezza.  Making all your own baby food has many benefits, but you need a way for your baby to enjoy it on the go, right?! This unit presses your homemade baby food into individual pouches for convenient storage and feeding. Just pour in the puree, press down to fill, squeeze and enjoy. I used this primarily for preparing food when we were traveling or on the go! You can also freeze the packets for your little one to enjoy at a later date.

High Chair:  I recommend the 4 moms highchair. The tray is magnetic for easy on and off one handed use. There is also a tray liner you can throw right in the dishwasher or clean in the sink without having to clean the entire tray. The high chair also has bowls that are magnetic that stay secured right on the high chair tray preventing you baby throwing the bowl over the edge.  Because the tray liner is so easy to clean, our son’s food goes right on the tray liner. The foam seat is removable and very easy to wash. Overall, I love this highchair for both functionality and its contemporary look.

Inglesina Fast Table Highchair:  This is such a great chair to have for both on the go and at home use. We use it at home when we want to have our baby pulled right up to the table. It’s been such a great product for on the go use. Whether it’s a long weekend at my parent’s home or a nice lunch out, this highchair makes eating on the go easier.

Boon Pulp: This is a really fun way for your baby to explore foods and it’s also great for teething! These durable silicone feeders make it easy for your little one to test out fruits and vegetables with its ingenious design and baby-friendly handle, while the easy-clean, dishwasher-safe design makes it parent-friendly, too.

Comotomo Baby Bottles:  These bottles have worked really great for us. I love how soft and squishy they are. The bottle features a silicone nipple that mimics feeding at the breast and eases breast-to-bottle transitioning. The wide-neck design makes for easy dishwasher cleaning, while strategic, leak-free vents are designed to help prevent colic.  They’ve been dishwasher cleaned too many times to count and they still look brand new.

0-8 MONTHS

If I had to pick ONE yes ONE must have baby item for the first 0-8 months,  it would be the Dockatot.  No question. At first glance, it’s just a docking station for your baby, it docks your tot. As a new parent,  I was very worried about SIDS and this product along with the Owlet monitor gave me peace of mind. We also didn’t have to haul the pack n play for overnighters. You can place the Dockatot right on the bed for sleep and naptime (until baby starts rolling over) and it’s approved for co-sleeping. I’m not sure if this is proven,  but I also praise the Dockatot for Charlie’s perfectly round dome! Funny how our priorities change in one year.

Dockatot Grand

9-36 MONTHS

Our son had some trouble transitioning from his bassinet to the crib. We decided to use the Dockatot Deluxe in his crib until he grew out of it around 8 months old. We replaced the Dockatot Deluxe with the Dockatot Grand and he now sleeps in it every night.  The Dockatot Grand will be a lifesaver when we transition our son from the crib to his toddler bed.  Not only is the grand bigger but another difference vs. the Deluxe is the Grand is approved for use in toddler and twin beds. The sides of the Dockatot Grand act as bumpers for your child during the transition into a big kid bed.

BABY SHOES THAT STAY ON

BABY GEAR, VOL. 2

News alert, telling your baby to keep their shoes on doesn't work, but I'm sure I didn't have to tell you that. There are so many cute options for baby shoes and as much as I would love to think they are all great, they aren't. As you can see from the photos below, Hunter boots on a one year old are not going to keep your child's feet dry. How adorable are they though?! I've rounded up my top picks for baby shoes that stay on.

Thoughts before purchasing:

What keeps them on? I found both velcro and elastic work best

What stage is your baby in? Walking vs. crawling

How heavy are the shoes? If your child is starting to walk make sure their shoes are not cumbersome.

Now that Charlie is close to walking, he's been wearing moccasins, especially while inside. They are soft but give him enough support to help with balance. Freshly picked moccasins are expensive, but they really do stay on. Charlie can go down a jumpy house slide 20 times without a problem.

Final thoughts from Dr. Jay:

"In determining the most appropriate shoes for your child, it is important to consider one which promotes good balance and posture along with comfort. Freshly Picked soft soled moccasins can help your baby’s feet absorb shock and potentially transmit less shock to the foot, leg and back.  In addition, Freshly Picked soft soled moccasins help your baby support his feet, which may provide ankle and arch support without being overly restrictive or uncomfortable." Dr. Jay Jagannathan, neurosurgeon

I included the Hanna Andersson socks because they were the only things that stayed on Charlie's feet from 0-3 months. For cold weather outings early on, Zutano Baby booties do the job. The Stan Smiths are great for crawling and never fall off. Converse work well, they have velcro and are light. When your baby begins to show signs of walking my top pick is the Freshly Picked moccasins.

Other things I can get behind:

  1. A cute graphic tee paired with a soft sweater or scarf
  2. These high waisted jeans which are, oh so comfortable
  3. A great monogram, compliments of Monograms off Madison
  4. A warm baby jacket that is not bulky
  5. Red heads

WINTER RUN DOWN

                  BABY GEAR , VOL. 1

123.jpg

WINTER LIST OF ESSENTIALS:

  1. Car seat cover
  2. Stroller footmuff
  3. Hats & Gloves
  4. Bunting
  5. Baby carrier cover
  6. Stroller gloves

Car Seat Cover: It's important to make sure if you do use a car seat cover for warmth that it doesn't jeopardize the safety of the car seat in any way. Charlie was born in October, and needed that extra warmth during the cold winter months. This was a must have for us. We used the 7 A.M.® Enfant LambPOD Footmuff Cover. It will keep your baby warm during outings and is easy to unzip to prevent over heating while traveling in the car. When your baby is a little older and spending less time in the car seat, you can transfer it right over to the stroller. It has a universal stroller fit. I also linked a few very affordable, traditional car seat covers below.

Stroller Footmuff: 7 A.M.® Enfant Blanket 212 Evolution This will keep your baby warm all winter long. Many strollers make their own footmuffs but most are universal. I used the cover mentioned above for our first winter but will most likely transfer over to this one which will carry us through the next few winters. This footmuff can be used from infancy through preschool and can also fit over a car seat. It's equipped with zippered length and width extensions, so it really does grow with your child. They also have a ton of really nice colors and prints.

Hats & Gloves: Some women spend money on shoes but I spend my money on Charlie's hats. He's a hat guy. Babies in cute hats pretty much melt my heart. If you have an infant the JJ Cole mittens stay on! I linked them below. Look for mittens with no thumb area and an elastic type wrist.

Bunting: I wouldn't even bother purchasing jackets for babies under one for the winter months. Bunting is where it's at! I recommend an ultralight down type bunting. Bunting made out of ultralight down will be on the thinner side and it's safe to put your baby in the car seat wearing this bunting. I only use a bunting or the car seat cover, not both at the same time. Always check your child for signs of over heating. Here is the link to an Ultralight down bunting. It's water resistant, and will keep your baby warm without weighing them down. I purchased ours from Baby Gap, but it's not available yet this season.

Baby carrier cover: I did not use one of these but they can be beneficial if you plan on having your baby in a carrier most of the winter. I personally think the bunting can work just as well but I'll link some carrier covers below.

REGISTRY GUIDE 4-12 MONTHS

NURSERY

Dockatot Grand:  Our son had some trouble transitioning from his bassinet to the crib. We decided to use the Dockatot Deluxe in his crib until he grew out of it around 8 months old. We replaced this with the Dockatot Grand and he now sleeps in it every night.  The Dockatot Grand will be a lifesaver when we transition our son from the crib to his toddler bed.

FEEDING

BabyBrezza Glass One Step Baby Food Maker: As you know, I’m a huge fan of the BabyBrezza products, so their food maker comes highly recommended.  We introduced solids at 6 months and I used that from day one.  It is so incredibly easy. You simply put the raw food in whether it’s vegetables, fruit or meat and the BabyBrezza steams and blends the food in one application.

Fresh Squeezed Squeeze Station: This product works really great if you buy the Baby Brezza.  Making all your own baby food is great, but you need a way for your baby to enjoy it on the go, right?! This unit presses your homemade baby food into individual pouches for convenient storage and feeding. Just pour in the puree, press down to fill, squeeze and enjoy. I used this primarily for preparing food when we were traveling or on the go!

GEAR

Jumpers:  Many of the jumpers on the market are very similar. I bought the Baby Einstein Jumper because it is small and I live in an apartment.  Now that the Skip Hop Jumper just came on the market, my choice might have changed. The Skip Hop Jumper FOLDS DOWN!!!  I really wish our jumper had that feature.

Activity gym: Again they are all very similar; it just comes down to personal preference.

Skip Hop Foam Floor Tiles: These are really great, especially when your little one starts crawling. These tiles are especially beneficial to place over hard wood floors.

4moms Playard: I listed two above and I’ll tell you why.  If you plan on using the playard when your child is an infant, I would choose the 4moms Breeze because it comes with a bassinet attachment.   If you plan on waiting until your baby is rolling over, I would choose the Breeze. I did not use a pack n’ play until my son was consistently rolling over because I just used the DockAtot when we would travel.

Joovy Spoon Walker:  Our son lived in this walker for months. It was such a nice product to have when he reached six months. He loved running around our home in this, eating snacks and even watching movies all in this walker!

Nuna Reva: When it comes down to new and improved technology, I am always on board. The smart design of the Nuna Reva uses advanced safety technology making installation very straightforward and simple. This car seat is not only safe but it’s also very easy to move from car to car. Nuna is a brand you can trust which has one of the best customer service departments I’ve ever dealt with.

Travel Must Haves

BabyZen YoYo: Can I please say LIFE SAVERRRRRR. This is one of our most used baby products. The yoyo stroller lives in our car and has made traveling stress free…Well, for the most part.  The stroller has an infant bassinet (Sold Separately) so it can be used from birth, but we just used the car seat adapters which worked out great. WAIT FOR IT…..This lightweight stroller folds down to the size of a big purse and you can throw it over your shoulder, having both hands free!!!! I honestly can’t say enough good things about this bad boy. Yup, pretty sure I stop a few families every trip we take just to spread the good word! Though it is expensive, you only register once and this quality will last.

Nuna Pippa: This car seat makes both traveling long distances and running out for coffee with friends hassle free. This is one of our most versatile products and I’ll tell you why. The Nuna Pipa can be used without the base using the European belt path, and it’s JUST AS SAFE as using it with the base. I KNOW, RIGHT?! I didn’t believe is at first either, so I jumped on a call with the Nuna safety specialist and it’s a FACT. The European Belt Path is a fancy term for,  you use the seat belt in your car to secure the car seat. A base comes with the car seat so you can install that in your vehicle and never move it. When you travel,  you just leave that heavy clunky base at home! The European belt path is so easy I can strap Charlie into a NYC cab in rush hour traffic under 2 min without breaking a sweat. Now if you are a first time mom, you might not understand how important this is, but the convenience factor is through the ROOF. Yes, I just said that. This is light weight.  Not as light weight as the new Nuna Lite carseat, but guess what?  The Nuna Lite doesn’t offer this feature so I would never recommend it. Well unless you are never going to need to move it. There’s also a sunshade to help keep all the strangers from reaching for your newborn’s hands…yup! I was just as shocked!

BabyBanZ: Perfect for those crucial naps on the go and attending loud events. They also stay on!

Marpac Dohm Hushh Portable Sound Machine: Crucial for preventing over stimulation during nap times while traveling. This noise maker is small, rechargeable and holds the charge very well.

Dockatot: If I had to pick ONE yes ONE must have baby item for the first 0-8 months,  it would be the Dockatot. As a new parent,  I was very worried about SIDS and this product along with the Owlet monitor gave me peace of mind.

Gathre Mats: They come in many different sizes, shapes and cool prints. These are great mats that have multiple uses. The mats can be used for diaper changes, at home messy art, for under high chair spills, picnics….you name it! The company even came out with a table cloth line. The mats are made out of leather, can be wiped clean and can be folded.

Ergobaby Baby Carrier: This carrier is ergonomically designed, hence the name, with four carry positions. It’s perfect for those long days filled with walking. Carriers are user friendly and great pieces of gear for traveling with a baby. When it comes to carriers I believe you really need to try them on to decide which gives you the best fit.
